GEB v/s Lila

Alejandro Barreto asked me about what I consider as the bible of philosophy: Godel Escher Bach or Lilla? Below is my response to him.

Dear Alejandro Barreto,

Its cool that you bought the GEB and Lila also.

Well, to be honest, I think there is no comparison between Lila and
GEB. They answer different questions. Lila is too abstract, so it
leaves much on the reader’s part to interpret. It makes you wonder and
is more a novel kind of book. GEB on the other hand, as you pointed,
is technical. I think they address different questions.

I think Lila is more philosophical than GEB; though neither of them is
THE Bible. As far as I can say, GEB is more like a puzzle book with
more twists (about logic) being uncovered as the book progresses.

In a nutshell, I think no philosophy is the philosophy. It’s just the
fact that what one finds amusing.

PS: I know I haven’t answered your question, but i cant help it.. ๐Ÿ™‚

PPS: I think no one can answer ur question ‘wtf the universe is
about’. Our brains were never evolved to discover about the world.
They were designed to hunt for the food and to have babies. Thats it.
We, philosophers, I think, are deluded about the universe and will
never find out what it is really about. Even if someone tells you the
truth, you either wont recognize it or would start questioning it. Our
brains keep deluding us.. ๐Ÿ™‚
